Paula Brown

Cloudcroft, New Mexico

Currently residing in the Sacramento Mountains of Southern New Mexico; Paula Brown (Little Wing Studio) is creating images, baskets and crafts inspired by the southwest. A graduate of Sam Houston State University, in Texas; majored in cultural history and art, elements which are reflected thoughout her work. Drawing since an early age, Prismacolors and Ink have become the media of choice. Prismacolor pencils are soft, easily blended colored pencils. Layers of color can be blended directly on the paper, resembling a dry form of watercolor. Her images center around the unique history of the southwest; cliff dwellings, indian pottery, petroglyphs and territorial adobe houses. Other creative outlets have come in the form of wrapped coiled baskets, silkscreen prints and windchimes, as well as commercial endevours reflecting the cultures of the region.

Employement has included positions as a layout/graphic artist for a commercial silkscreen business; a university news service, print shop and publishing dept.; a staff artist for a local network TV station and an illustrator/graphic artist for a government contractor. As a freelance artist she did design/layout and illustration for a local building contractor. She has participated many times in local juried art shows, shown her work in local galleries and produced assorted commissions. Collectors of her work are from all parts of the country; Pennsylvania in the northeast, to Florida in the southeast, to Texas in the south, to California and Oregon on the west coast, as well as numerous collectors in New Mexico.
